Architecture’s centennial celebration previewed

During the 2011-12 academic year, the Sam Fox School of Design & Visual Arts will mark the centennial of its College of Architecture and Graduate School of Architecture & Urban Design. Beginning Friday, April 1, the Sam Fox School will preview festivities with “Architecture at 100: Architectural Education at Washington University,” a series of informal talks, roundtable discussions and alumni reflections. Soldiers screened for tinnitus

Hearing loss is common for soldiers coming home from deployments to Iraq and Afghanistan, but another perhaps equally vexing problem is tinnitus, a condition that causes them to hear sound that isn’t there. Using MRI scans, School of Medicine researchers hope to identify differences in brain activity that will aid development of preventive strategies to alleviate the effects of tinnitus. FULL STORY

Dance company pays homage to New Orleans

Cemeteries and marching bands, skeleton krewes and carnivals both glittering and raucous. Even prior to Hurricane Katrina, few cities understood the fine line between revelry and requiem better than New Orleans. This weekend, celebrated choreographer Trey McIntyre returns to Edison with Ma Maison, a rousing homage to New Orleans. FULL STORY

All Souls author reads for Writing Program

Christine Schutt, the Visiting Fannie Hurst Professor of Creative Literature in the Department of English in Arts & Sciences and a nominee for both the Pulitzer Prize and National Book Award, will present two events March 31 and April 7 as part of the Writing Program Reading Series. Her latest novel, All Souls, is a funny, poignant and wickedly original tale of innocence, daring and illness. FULL STORY

  • Swimming and diving teams compete at NCAA championship meet. The men’s swimming and diving team captured 16th place and the women finished 24th at the 2011 NCAA Division III Swimming and Diving Championships March 23-26 in Knoxville, Tenn. The Bears broke several school records at the four-day national meet.
